World Of Warcraft & Skype -- The receiving end hears everything :(
 

I wish to be able to play Warcraft (under wine which runs perfectly) and be able to talk to people over skype without them hearing the wonderful sounds of me slaying the weak ;)

I'm not sure whether this is an issue with the audio server I have running in Debian or whether it is simply wine outputting all audio to my line in feed or something.

Would a switch to a better audio server solve the problem? If so any recommendations?

Its not just WoW but anything I can hear such as music (amarok) flash video (epiphany) movies (vlc) etc.

Any help in this is greatly appreciated, and thanks for your time.

I think it's a skype issue. I've had this on and off with the same hardware/soundserver. A friend who uses windows has the same problem every now and then. You could try switching from alsa to oss, or possibly - if you have two sound devices - use one for the skype mic, and the other one for audio output. you can set that in the skype preferences.

Does your mic have to be unmuted in the output section of alsamixer in order for the other person to hear you?If so :
I have the same problem, and I believe it is because I set the "input" (alsamixer) to mix; which is in fact software mixing of everything you audio card spits out to the speakers, havin this as input simply makes skype send the whole output of your sondcard over to the other guy/girl... What you need to do is force the "input" to be "mic", and make it work...I don't need skype that much, so I never really struggled with it...
