Wine winver ? 2005XXXX please help

Trying to run wine, get a message saying that I need 16bit.. I use 24bit and I don't plan on run everything on 16bit.. However I was told that running with winver win98 would solve it.. But I don't have a .wine/config nor does

wine --winver win98 hl.exe

work... How is this accomplished in the newer versions of wine?

I miss my config file (and no I don't have em in my docs ) and I can't understand why the old way of doing winver isn't working.. Plain sucks if you ask me...

cd to wherever you extracted the wine source,
and look for the dir:

~/documentation/samples/

example:

/home/foo/dwnlds/wine20050310/documentation/samples/

In here should be a sample config.

Copy it to your .wine folder and adjust as needed.
