wine: Unhandled page fault on write access

Hello, I've been using Slackware for a couple of months already but have just installed wine today. Installing Age of Empires II went off without a hitch but now when I try running
Code:
wine c:\\empires2.exe
(I copied the executable straight to the .wine/drive_c directory to solve a different error*) it fails with the error message in the thread title.

I also tried a no-CD patch executable but with that it doesn't do anything, just fails silently.

Any ideas?

*wine: Unhandled page fault on read access. So almost the same thing. If you know of an alternate fix for this one (other than copying the .exe to the drive_c directory) that would also be appreciated.

OK, a little bit of progress (I hope)...

Replaced the Slackbuild with the Slackware package I found on WineHQ of the current verion 1.3, went over the .dep file and made sure I had every package on there. Now when I start zsnes instead of getting that error I get a black box with an infinite loop with this message:
Code:
fixme:d3d_surface:surface_cpu_blt Filter WINED3DTEXF_LINEAR not supported in software blit
I'll continue trekking through Google for WineD3D stuff I suppose...

EDIT: Tried NEStopia and it seems to work! I will keep at it with zsnes and Age of Empires however...

zsnes hasn't been updated in years, I would try snes9x_gtk

Hi Daedra,

I have a pertinent update to this thread that I kind of forgot about. It's a long story, but essentially I tried zsnes first and had the problems I described, so I switched to snes9x, which started up but wouldn't play any ROMs, so I actually found a Slackbuild of zsnes that ended up working (eventually).

I actually tried this Slackbuild earlier but thought it was broken because it would hang on one of the lines, but when I came back to it I decided to be more patient and sure enough it eventually was able to move on (only to get stuck on another line for about ten or fifteen minutes...). To top it all off, for some reason the Slackbuild script was looking in my home directory instead of its own directory for the required source files and such, so it took me a few restarts to figure out it was doing this and copy all the files in the directory into my home directory...so it took a couple of hours but now I have a functioning Zsnes emulator which I have been using to play Final Fantasy III for a couple of days now with no apparent problems.

However I'm still up s*** creek as far as Age of Empires is concerned. Doesn't look like it's going to happen.
