Smile Wine - Diablo II LOD TCP/IP doesn't work +where is my wine.conf

Hello, i just installed wine, and LOD. LOD works GREAT! ... except for some little catches
1, and most importantly) tcp/ip doesn't work!!! It says it "cannot detect a valid tcp address", so i can't click host or join. Maybe this is wine's problem? do i have to enable networking somehow?

2) I use mandrake 10 official, and the bottom panel covers the game while i am playing. in order to hide it, i press the little arrow on the right to suck it up. however, is there a way to make the diablo II go in "always on top" mode or something? It would be nice to not have that little arrow on the side. I know how to eliminate by configuring the panel, but i'd like it to do it automatically when i run diablo if possable, and the come back when i quit.

3)The title music plays extra fast, and high pitch! it sounds like chipmonks! All other sounds work though. I am just curious why it does this.

and 4), where is my wine.conf file? it isn't in ~/.wine/ I can't find it. I am using the latest release of wine. In previous releases, i've been able to find it.

Thanks for any help

Question how did you....

I'm stumped on HowTo.
I'm wondering... how did you install LoD in the first place?

EDIT: Installed

PS> the wine.conf is in /etc/wine

Can't help with most of your problems but to play tcp/ip games I had to comment out the first line of my /etc/hosts file so it looked like the following.

#127.0.0.1 localhost hostname

I'm using WineX 3.3.2 and Xandros OCE but I'd think it would work Wine and Mandrake as well.

Well, I didn't really figure it out, more like stumbled on it after lots of searching with google. I really don't know a lot about the hosts file. Mine's only one line, but I know it can be used to block internet ads by assigning certain domains to that 127, and things like that.

Eh, can you explain this to me?
I also can't get my tcp/ip games to work, and what you said makes no sense to me :S
Help?

It's very good. Certenly one of the best working games on wine. Only the tcp/ip thing doesn't work out of the box.

If you open the /etc/hosts textfile with an editor, you'll see something like:
Code:
# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
If you put a hashmark (#) in front of the 127 line, it will practically mean you remove the line (turns it into a comment - read: "outcomment").

Generelly though, I think totally removing the line is a bit harsh (even though it seams to work), cause as the /etc/hosts warning descripes, it might give problems for other apps.
Instead you should follow the guide in http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=49 which writes the following:
Quote:
If you are going to play a direct TCP/IP game and the game tells you that it could not detect a valid address, make sure about things:

1. Have a valid internet addressible IP address for internet play or proper NAT forwarding.
2. Have a hostname other than localhost.
3. In /etc/hosts, have a valid hostname of your computer listed with your current IP address you want to use and do not have your hostname listed with 127.0.0.1. Do not have "localhost 127.0.0.1" listed first either.
