I assumed the distro of Linux for Mac is capable of running all the same stuff as an PC based distro.
Short answer: no
Long answer: Mac's are not PC's they do not use the same processors. WineX is next to useless on the Mac since you would have to be running windows applications that where compiled for the PPC(mac's architecture). If you have the source to the said program you can make it run on Mac. Lastly why in hell would you want to run linux on a mac when you can use the superior OSX?
I love OS X. I don't really want to use Linux as an everyday OS, but I was hoping to be able to play some games on it that won't run on OS X.
I'm very familiar with the differences between PPC and x86 processors, what I have no familiarity with is Linux and it's capabilities.
Question, if a Mac running Linux can't run anything made for and x86 processor, what can it run? Is there a whole other category of Mac/Linux software? I was under the impression from the YDL testimonials page that it could run anything x86 Linux could..

It can run software that was compiled for the PPC. Yes you will find packadges that have been pre-compiled for you for the PPC so you can use them on your mac. YDL lies to you. Anything where they have the source can be made with some effort to work on PPC. Does this mean linux games will work? No...
Lastly there are more games for the Mac then for Linux so why bother using it to play games? The games are native to PPC which means no slow down due to emulation overhead etc...
I'm 100% a Mac devotee. But it's a myth that there are as many good games for Mac as PC. Except for Blizzard games, everything comes out 6 months later. And like I said earlier, I'm primarily a MMO player, and there are next to none on the Mac platform.
Specifically the one I'm playing right now on Windows, which my girlfriend and other close friends play too. I only play games on my computer if they're online social games, which is pointless if I'm playing different games than my friends. If I want to play games alone, that's what the Xbox is for, it does it better than any computer.
i beilive that osx come with a pc emulator of somthing to create a windows enviroment on the osx mac hardware, if so you can just play your games on the osx, it would probably be easier

Virtual PC doesn't come with OS X, you have to buy it, and it's an emulator. It isn't capable of using your video card, so it can't run 3d games.
