From my tests, there are no good N64 emulators for Linux yet. Fake64 is the pioneer and it runs ok, but not good enough. It's also a package for Gentoo, if I'm not mistaken.
Yeah I tried Mupen64 for windows and it was a bit crap, it would be wicked if somone could port (I think thats the word) or make one as good as PJ64 but for Linux!
All my gaming woes would be sorted! Just about every cool game made seems to be available for N64!
Oh boy, I still have my N64... Mario64, Banjo, Doom64 (the best looking and the hardest of Doom in my opinion, except 3... I believe), Perfect Dark, Goldeneye (best James Bond game yet... imho), the immortal Zelda - The ocarine of Time, the classic Star Fox which came with humble pack, Mario Kart, which I've played so much with my cousin, Diddy Kong's Racing, my wife's favorite, Castlevania, not as good as the 2D's, but still funny..... oh boy, what flashback .
When I get the sound and graphics acceleration working on my new Abit NF7 motherboard (which a nvidia chipset) and my Radeon 9100 (ATI chipset) working!!
I am going give Mupen64 a go! As I know where to get some roms from... although I have read you can only have them on your computer for 24 hours!!
If you own the game you can have the rom as long as you want . It's a consumers right to have a backup of the program they own . It should not take a long to download roms with Kazaa or xmule though
I haven't had any problems with Mupen64, although the only game I play is Zelda: OoT. I'm not big on N64 emulation though, aren't enough games that I enjoy. /me is losing faith in Nintendo *gasp*.
I love emulators so much. I wish I had money to chip my Xbox and put a big HD and fill it with emulators and Roms . Nintendo 64 was a very good console, released at the wrong time, with the wrong media (cartridges) with the wrong games (too many games for kids). But still created the unforgettable and now legendary Zelda (it took about 4 years to produce that game..wow). But I think Nintendo will always be there you know, they own the titles everybody wants, Mario, Zelda, Star Fox, Metroid. They are always great. Nintendo Gamecube is better then PS2 in my honest opinion (but esthetically ugly). Anyway, what I want to say is, GameCube fights indirectly with Xbox and PS2, but nobody really cares, Nintendo is the big brother you know, they have the titles, the games are cute, the frames are always rock solid . The truth is, unless you own all consoles (which will never be my case) something you will miss .
Yeah Megaman X thats what normal computers miss... being rock solid!
Anyway I am pretty impressed that stuff can crash with linux and you can kill it and keep going...
One day normal computers will be as stable as consoles... Just donīt know when.
I am sure my mobile phone has crashed a few times! What does that tell you!
ghehhe . It's not the first time that I heard about mobiles crashing. As I have noone to call, the last "mobile" I had was a big Ericsson. Big enough that some might call it a phone booth today .
I wanted to stay away from the consoles you know, the games cost more then PC games. But at the end, I could not resist and got an Xbox. It does not have a lot of great games as PS2 or even Gamecube (at least not yet) but playing emulators on it was my first thought. Sure, PS2 and Gamecube can run emus, but looking at the consoles specifications, Xbox would handle emulators better . I not really like Microsoft, but since they are losing about 100 dollars with every Xbox that they sell (uncle Bill put right from Mr.Pocket 100 bucks, so they can compete with PS2's price, how can a company have so frickin fuc* amount of money, is beyond my reality.). That's because I got an Xbox, it's cheap to be a PC, it takes 100 bucks from MS and plays emulators lol.
I think PC games got better. Specially nowadays when nobody plays arcades often, or even invite a friend over for a cool match. Internet got it all. I kinda prefer to play in my living room, make some popcorns and invite a lot of friends home, order pizzas, grab some coke and have to remove the dirties from the joypads next day. It's so much cooler. I also like saving 1.500 USD/year with a computer upgrade (memories, video card, processor...) to play a new DirectX shooter game, which is exactly like all the others, but a little bit more shiny
PS: cool link by the way jimdaworm .

Hey I figured good old Bill was loosing money on the Xboxes but I didnīt know that much!! I am going out tomorrow to buy one!! I will get one of these chips my mate said he has in his... and who knows maby I can get slackware into it!
If you love emulator's Megaman, you might want to look into using a Dreamcast. I'd love an X-Box for the same reason (mostly for the GBA emulation and nice fast SNES) but I use my Dreamcast for NES, Atari, Intellivision, old skool MAME games and Game Boy (Color) emulation. Plus, you don't need to chip anything, boy howdy is it great. A new SNES emulator is coming out that will (hopefully) surpass DreamSNES and get to Full Speed on every ROM. But there isn't anything like kicking back and playing some Mega Man 2 or Ninja Gaiden and not having to blow on any carts .
Good idea GT_Onizuka!. Plus, it's amazing how cheap we can find a Dreamcast nowadays. I really love old games (god, my favorite games are still Street Fighter 2 Turbo and Super, Castlevania and Megaman series). I didn't know it run emulators out of the box. I've also heard of PSone emulation in Dreamcast . And once again, you are totally right about blowing carts, even worse when you want to play a Famicon game on the NES using that terrible adapter...ghehe.
One thing is quite interesting though. Once, I've found a NES emulator for PSOne. The games run slow like crap, but still PSone impressed me. Later, I've also find a Master System emulator for PSone. The games run really neat, but the sound stinks... really impressive IMHO for such low end hardware as PSone . I wonder how one could go by creating applications for PSone. That would be really cool
