Originally posted by banderson Which games, how about all games. But if I had to pick a few; Splinter Cell, Counter Strike, Quake III. I would be willing to pay, since I pay for the Windows versions.
dude! there IS a linux point release for quake 3 AND quake 2!! (maybe even 1 too!)
the game i would most like to see ported to linux is Ragnarok Online. *sigh* due to the use of private servers im not seeing it anytime soon. i think it would be nice to have full compatibility between the to. software designers port the to mac, it would only be to cool to port them to linux as well. think of being able to insert any cd and it just works.
Originally posted by mossy This would entail having a sort of curved area around the sides of the screen where we can see [not very focused obviously] pretty much if there is any movement. For obvious reasons it cannot be allowed to take up too much of the screen but it should be effective in betting better views around corners etc without the gameplay becoming too clumbsey or difficult to manipulate - it could be given automated priority around corners or something.
The idea is to simulate real peripheral vision.
The way I though the peripheral vision would work is to have a circle within an ellipse, much like a fish eye lenes. The central circle would be just like normal vision, and the outer ellipse would be blurry and distorted.
arioch said, Another idea....is to give the player the ability to move thier heads, without their gun moving...
I think of where your looking is where your focus is, and your unlikely to hit anything with blind or random shooting.
Also re the controls. Why not use the wheel of the mouse to control the head. the roll to turn it and the click to recentre?
System Shock 2!! Got it working somehow using Winex, but fps is like 10.
I also want play Painkiller (finaly a good doom/blood/quake like fps), Half-Life2 and Steam under linux.
Erm, excuse me, have Linux users forgotten about the 'free' part of Linux/Unix, I think games should be free in Linux, because you have to pay for Windows games & it would break the open-source agreements I think.
In the end it would be better to sell them for free, because then people can freely mod/edit the games & it would be good for the gaming industry because there would be a lot more tourneys & community spirit in gaming, also, I think a lot more people would turn to Linux if it was to be implemented.
Long Live the Linux Community!!!!!!
