Ut2k3 slower than windows ?

hello,
i successfully installed ut2k3 (with 3cd) under linux, but i find it's slower than under windows xp pro.

my system :
- amd duron 1.1GHz on an elitegroup k7s5a mainboard
- 256mb sdram
- hd 80go ata133
- nvidia geforce 2 ti 64mb (driver compiled)
- running ut2k3 with 800x600x32b on a 21" screen

By Driver Compiled, do you mean you use the nvidia driver, or the NV driver (open source)

i mean i've downloaded drivers on the nvidia site (filename : NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-5336-pkg1.run)
this afternoon, i upgraded to 2.6.3 kernel (before 2.4.22), i will try again but i don't think it will change something

I have noticed Return To Castle Wofenstein is slower as well but I am using a Radeon based card. Seems ATI does not provide as good a driver for Linux as they do for Windows. :-(

yes i know that ati drivers for linux are not as good as the windows drivers.
i'm running ut with kde 3.2. does kde eat a lot of memory and ut can't get enough mem ?
i'll try with gnome or window maker (this one is very light )

The game (and most of them) is optimized for running under windows, that's why some of them are slower than the windows version, just because it wasn't designed to run under Linux but Window$

ut2k3 is developped natively (don't know if this word exists) but it may be because of directx

Nah, UT on linux uses an opengl renderer - no directx involved.

It's about the same for me (between win and lin), maybe 5fps difference either way.
