UT2004 on linux not being able to See Windows Servers
Hey guys, i just went to a lan, and my ut2k4 linux machiene was not able to view the windows servers (on the lan). But i am able to connect to windows server on the net. Would this be a networking problem.
PS
I have tried this on 2 different installations with 2 different machienes, currently using Debian
Hehe yeh ofcorse i got my network going, it was on dhcp and i was hosting a opendchub server and using dc++ at the same time, the problem is, is that when i get home and use my own ip addresses , my other linux box and mine can see eachother if we start a ut2004 server, which is great. At the lan if i start my own server eveyone else can view my computer, but i cant see anyone elses computer by using the lan browser. If i type "open (192.168.0.134:7777)" in the command line thinggie that you bring down by pressing ~ , i can actaully connect to the other computers. This is a pain in the ass since you actually have to go to someone and ask them for their ip address, and it makes linux look inferior :< which we all know is not the case.
it is a DNS issue... windows machines use netbios to get computer names... which is how the lan works in UT2004. linux doesnt use netbios for name resolution.. not by default anyways.. if anyone knows how to set that up I would like to know
