UT2004 Flickering and Freezing on Ubuntu
 

Hi everyone. I know this problem has been mentioned before, but in several threads, in the several forums I have been on, they always somehow get this problem solved, but I cannot.

The Problem: After starting a game of any type, whether online or not, about 10-20 seconds into the game, the game will begin to flicker, slowly speeding up, then it will freeze for another 5-10 seconds.

What have I done: I have installed the NVIDIA drivers off the nvidia site itself, not relying on the package handler's version. I have reset my BIOS settings (somehow this has helped someone else) I have updated the game to the retail update, AND the unofficial 3369 version (that is supposed to be more stable). I have made sure every update for Ubuntu was installed.

My System Specs:
Operating System: Ubuntu
Processor: AMD 64-bit 3500+
Graphics: Geforce 6800 Ultra
Sound: Sound Blaster Audigy SE
Memory: 2x512 MB DDR

Originally, I had a Sound problem, where I couldn't ever get sound from playing the game. This was (sorta) fixed by adding this to the comments in the shortcut I created: +set s_driver oss I read that this made the alsamixer to use original sound emulation or something like that, so it would work for giving the game sound. I don't know if this is helping the problem or not, but I doubt it, but I'm not the best at Linux anyway.
