UT2003: Installing mods

I recently got UT2003 and installed it on my system from the CD's using emerge. It installed and runs fine, but now I want to install some of the bonus packs for the maps.. The epic bonus pack, the DE bonus pack and the Community bonus pack. But for some reason, everything I try doesn't work. I downloaded one of the bonus packs and got a zip file with a ut2mod file in it. I tried downloading umod and using that, and it seemed to work, but when I tried to start a game with any of the new maps it gave me some kind of URL error and the console gave me an error like

The file '../Maps/DM-CBP-Ougaldwin.ut2' contains unrecognizable data

For each file. So I tried a different route and downloaded the ravage installer from icculus.org, but for some insane reason when I try to run it it says that I need to have UT2003 installed, then closes! I've tried this with both root and my regular user, and I'm stumped. Can anyone give me a hand with this? I can't find any useful information on google.

Oh, and I only really need the maps, so is there anywhere I can just download them without having to install the packs, as the mutators seem to work?

Thanks!

OK, I found non-umod versions of the other mods I wanted including the CBP, but I still get this error when it tries to run the maps. So I guess I'll have to let the game download those maps when it needs to.

If any of the mods contain UPL files (text files) which were created on windows, the linebreak character can mess things up. I crashed UT after installing a player model like this. After removing the windows ^M characters from the UPL file it stopped crashing.
