Usable Game Recorders (like GLC or Fraps) other than screen recorders?
 

I'm fairly competent in Linux, but as far as I know right now, there's just no feasible way to record games in Linux. Please let me explain a few things I've already heard about and tried:

-Use RecordMyDesktop, RecordItNow, or Kazam! (ffmpeg/recordmydesktop)
While these work great when I'm doing tutorials, games look horrible. While I'll admit that I've gotten results with these in the past, they're not made for game recording. They grab pixels from the screen AFTER the graphics card renders them and sends them out. Screen recorders are not what I'm looking for.

-GLC
I'm willing to talk a bit more about this one. I've tried using the terminal-based interface and the frontend Gamecaster for recording games with GLC. Here's it's problem: in a controlled test environment, it works absolutely fabulous. When I have a few hours to set up and get all of my settings right, I can record flawlessly. However, when I'm going to record a game, I only have between a half hour and an hour to set up. Gamecaster never seems to work (sorry, I'm afraid I can't explain why-- willing to accept input), and while I have gotten GLC working in the terminal, when I don't spend 45 minutes testing and using trial-and-error to get things to work, I always end up with a corrupted stream, a missing spot, or trouble when trying to convert to a usable format. That combined with the lack of a "started recording" confirmation plus the fact that it hasn't been updated for over a few years has turned me off to this. If you seriously understand the factors that make this unusable and have a solution, I'd love for you to share it with me.

I'm really not trying to be picky here-- I'm not even a serious gamer. However, when I just want to record a little Minecraft, it can get really frustrating when every single one of the answers is either telling me to use a program that doesn't do what I want it to or telling me to use Windows-- that's why I took this question over here from the Minecraft forums.
