configure your 5.1 surround card in alsa, turn the volume on, tick 5.1 on UT and all should come clear.

Failing that, what have you tried so far?

Well I have working 5.1 surround with mplayer... and doom3. So I have noticed that you need to tell every program that you need to use 5.1 surround to use surround51pcm device, in default all programs have default pcm device and it give only stereo sound. Naturally I have no idea to tell ut to use surround51 otherwice I would be playing. I tried in UT2003.ini some options one of them was Speakers = 6 with that i got weird 3.0 sounds, all sound came out from center and front left and right. In ut I have hardware 3D + EAX so it seams that I only need to ut use right pcm device
