Unreal 1

With a little work I was able to get Unreal 1 (UnrealGold) to wine prefectly under Stock Wine. yet I have a problem, that is most likley apparent with a couple other games people might have tried.

First, I dont like the whole concept of the Wine Desktop, Or having the window manager (I use metacity --Im a gnome man) taking over the wine window, IE Id rather have wines 'window manager' used for any and all wine programs,

So changing that option was fine in wineconfig, yet the problem is, the game starts off fullscreen and the 'window' for the game insnt 'active', so there is no keyboard input being accepted to the game.

Id ahve no problem with 'alt -tabbing) to the game, yet since the wine 'wine manager' doesnt register with the gnome taskbar, and is not esseivntally a gnome/metacity window that I can switch to, I have to kill the game.
Any thoughts on how to 'swithc over' t0o the game window? I probably wored this whole thread wrong and it sounds like im a crazy luntic so please batre with me..

Slackware 9.1
Gnome 2.4
Wine 20030911 (compiled from source)
kernel 2.4.22
