Hi,

I'm a great fan of of Tribes 1/2 and am also new to Linux. From what I understand you need to have the Linux version of Tribes 2 from
www.lokigames.com. Even though there website is still up, they aren't in business no more. :( I don't know if you can get the Windows version of Tribes 2 to install.

I've searched hi and low for someone selling the Linux version of Tribes 2, but no luck :(

Best Regards,
Brian

i think you can buy tribes 2 at:
http://tuxgames.com
plus, loki should have a reseller list.
also, if you already have tribes 2, you probably could get linux native binaries at:
ftp://ftp.lokigames.com

I have Tribes 2 windows CD, is that what ya mean?

LavaDevil94 11-12-2003 05:34 PM

ya, if you already have the windoze cd, you can download linux binaries.

the binaries that are available are only for the Server (the Client has to be the lokigames CD)

:( it does suck that these aren't available any longer ... I've got both versions & IMHO the loki-client (lin version) plays so much better .......

so i guess oakstaff will have to buy the game off of tuxgames.

Looks like there might be a Tribes clone for linux at http://hosted.tribalwar.com/legends/

I'm going to try it out tonight.

Why not just try Winex?

:tisk: from all past x.p.'s .... wineX wouldn't even run Tribes1 .... I tried tribes2 for kicks .... and I got exactly that (lots of them) ....

it works for bf1942 .... but not for the not quite so cpu/system intensive ones ....
i'd love to get some of my old games working correctly .... but none of the 10-15 different emu's i've tried work for enough of these to justify keeping it around ?? :study:

Actually the latest version of Winex (3.2-1) is running Tribes2 quite nicely, you just need to edit the prefs file to disable the intro movie to get it to start (see Transgaming forums for instructions).

Only problem I am encountering is it freezes after completing the first map online, while attempting to load the next map. Im currently trying to work out if this is my router blocking something, or some Winex related issue.

Also, I have the Loki version of Tribes2 as well, but the Loki installer falls over because of glibc incompatability, as far as I can tell. Would love to be able to load up the Linux version instead of running under Winex.
