Steam problem: Half-Life works perfectly but can't create/join games with CS 1.6.
 

I installed Steam with Cedega 4.2 correctly. Now, when I choose a Half-Life in the Play Games menu and join a game it works perfectly. The problem comes when I choose Counter-Strke rather than HL to play... I cannot view any screen of the actual game running but I can see its menues, list the servers available and so on. I've tried with both software and opengl and neither work. My computer only has got 256MB of RAM, since CS is a much bigger program than HL, can it be the problem?

nah, cs will run fine with 256megs or ram. Unless we're talking about cs:source. Can you run opengl games (quake3, etc)?

Yes, I can run Quake3 and Soldier of Fortune, both Linux native and Half-life in OpenGL mode, emulating with Cedega. I'm trying now virtual machines, everything's working fine but SLOW. Anyway, I want CS working with Cedega, just because it is faster and simply because it should... ;)

I've tried to run Warcraft III (without any patch, just as it comes from the CD) using Cedega but it happens exactly the same as with CS 1.6 (no source). What happens is that I get back to the desktop when the game should begin with the resolution the game had.

that pretty much means it crashing..... I've already been trhough this my self. Try running the Steam.exe or Warcraft3.exe from the terminal to find out what is crashing.

My WC3 wouldn't update through BNet, it made the game crash all the time....I had to use the patch manually for it to work properly.

Ok, I've done that but I get no aparently useful error messages. I get exactly this:

ok are you Point2Play or Cedega?? If your using Point2Play I have the same problem with that plugin. I just haven't had a chance to look it up yet.

But if your using Cedega the fix is simple! On TransGaming.com they have the mozilla plugin for Cedega, it will allow HTML content to appear in games with Cedega. You also will need the MS Font plugin which should be located right under the mozilla plugin.

You may want to browse the forums at www.transgaming.org/forums if your using Point2Play. I use P2P just because to me its faster for picking what I want to do.

My friend is running Suse and has no problems with CS. Along with a good handful of others in the transgaming forums.

Ok, I have downloaded and installed the plugin for mozilla, successfully aparently. However, I can't see the "News" window in Steam nor play Counter-Strike or Warcraft III because something that happened to me since the beginning but only hardly ever: the games seems to be loading but it reaches a point where the mouse cursor moves extremelly slow and it takes millions of years for the game to fill another rectangle of loading process. Tomorrow I'll try if I can get to finish the load proces of both games, today I'm too tired :D. I'll tell you what I get, thanks for the help :)

Oh, I almost forgot, what's the difference between Cedega and Point2Play?

Well Point2Play is mainly a GUI for Cedega... I like using P2P just for the simple fact I can change the game settings, sound driver, desktop size, and more right from a GUI before I launch the game.

Cedega has config files you can edit to do this, but why do that when you can just check boxes?

It also puts the icons in a menu for you and uses the Icons you'd see in Windows.

Maybe the problem with your mouse is the DXGrab feature. Are you sure you have OpenGL drivers installed? If so what kind of FPS are you getting with glxgears?

glxgears isn't great for doing FPS...but it gives you a round about guess... Mine registered in at 15,000fps I have a Geforce 6800 GT OC...but on CS I get about 100FPS stable.

My NVIDIA drivers are correctly installed since I get nvidia's splash screen and half-life, quake III (native) and soldier of fortune (native too) run better than they did in windows. By the way, I get 3000 fps with glxgears, that's because I've got an old GeForce 440 MX with 64 MB of RAM. I'm going to the gym now, when I finish I'll try to run CS.
