Star Wars Galaxies

Hi everyone, I'm new to the boards and fairly new to Linux also. I was curious to know if there is currently any way to get Star Wars Galaxies running on Linux. I've tried installing it through Wine to no avail. Any help is much appreciated.

Besides Winex, I don't think there is any way at all to get galaxies running on linux. DId you try Winex from transgaming.com, or the regular one? Give that a shot if you didn't try winex, it just may work. However, I really can't help you as far as that is concerned, since I've never used these pieces of software.

Besides Wine though, I'm not aware of any other way to get it to play. I'm sorry. I'll take a look for anything good.

Well, as at December last year (and currently) it doesn't work under Winex4/Cedega. All I can suggest is to subscribe and add your vote and transgaming may well get it working. At least, that's according to the transgaming site.

But then, http://linuxpr.com/releases/6991.html says it does work under cedega as at last month. So, grab Cedega and you should be ok.

Welcome to LQ :D

Thanks a lot guys, I appreciate the response, I'll try installing it under Cadega. If it doesn't work then i'll just wait it out lol. Thanks again.

SWG is apparently supported under Cedega (WineX 4) by Transgaming. A lot of people have problems getting it working, however.

Yeah, from what I understand it's almost impossible to get some of these game working under wine. I usually don't think it's even worth it because it takes so much work to get the games to play.

Well personally I think it's worth it because I honestly don't use my computer for half as much as I used to. Basically now it's all work related and the only game I play now is SWG(I used to play Quake III, UT series, CS, Everquest, Diablo 2 all at once lol) And basically I wanna stop using Windows all together and just convert to Linux. Everything else I want is already working , the only thing I need now to scrap windows is SWG lol.

But thanks everyone for all the tips, very helpful, sometime this week i'll get around to subscribing to transgaming and trying to get it working on Cedega.

By the way, there is no word on whether the new expansion for SWG, Jump to Lightspeed, is going to be supported...

From what I've seen, it's pretty robust as flight sims are concerned.

that makes 3 of us
tho i do tend to play the occasional "legend of mir"
but other than that...i wudnt use windows :(

the reason u cant use wine to play alot of games is becuz wine doesnt support directx...only directdraw, direct3d and openGL...i have tried star wars galaxies on wineX4...installs great...login great...updates great...but crashes at the loading screen with the picture of a jawa on it...but what can you do:Pengy:
