Running Windows Games In Linux From Windows Hard Drive

Hey Guys,

I successfully dual-boot RedHat 9 (Curent Kernel) and Windows XP Pro SP1. My Windows XP Hard Drive has been formatted with Fat32 and I can access it just fine. I was wondering though if it's possible to run the Windows games from the Windows Hard Drive while booted into linux. I figured I could configure wine to handle the *.exe files and *.dlls files etc. Can someone let me know if it's possible to do this. I have to run right now, so I don't really have time to find the answer. Thank God that I can type fast though. You people are awesome.

Thanks,

Yes - this is possible. Wine can run either it's own fake windows drive or a real Windows partition.

It would have probably been equally as quick to Search LQ for the answer.

while using a native windows partition sounds nice, it isn't a very good idea

make (or if you have one, use) a fake windows install because either your windows dll's could get screwed up or they won't be supported by wine (the dll's do have versions to them)

also, linux is not like windows in that windows doesn't mind running something from a different partition; linux tends to like to run things within its own partition
a program from another partition will look within its own partition for other libraries and things in order to run; this i noticed trying to run neverwinter nights from a fat32 partition (the fat32 environment was not "sane")

if possible, copy those files into your linux partition and then run them in wine, the results will be better
