Quake2 and ALSA?

Im trying to run quake2 and i see this

------- sound initialization -------
/dev/dsp: No such file or directory
Could not open /dev/dsp

Quake2 ran before I upgraded alsa, but the sound was really choppy.
Do I need to point a symlink for /dev/dsp somewhere?

I'm using ALSA 1.0.7 and slackware 10

THanks
Harry

On my system, /dev/dsp is a link pointing at /dev/dsp0
Might take a look & if you have dsp0 setup, make it the same.
