quake iii mouse issue

This was mentioned here in July, but the answer doesn't work for me (I don't have the gpm service running). Anyway, Mandrake 9.2, latest q3 point release, Gforce4 (4496 driver), Microsoft optical USB mouse (-hey, they make (or contract for) great mouses, ok?), AMD etc etc.

Q3 starts and runs just fine except the mouse (the little crosshairs, that is) lock at the top left and will not be moved. I can navigate with the keyboard, but of course this will not do. I quit the game and there's the merry cursor bouncing along like nothing was ever wrong.

Need I expand on the etc etc?

P.S.help me and I'll tell you my secret CLIENT_UNKNOWN_TO_AUTH fix.

ok. I'll tell you anyway. Unplug the network from the internet. Ta Da!

There was an issue with the 1.32a patch making the mouse not work.

I did a little research on the internet... There is a workarround that works for me. Before you run Quake, change the date to 1509HHmm01 (where HHmm is current hour minute) Run quake and it should work.

The latest patch should have fixed it... but aparently didnt.

Anyway, you should also install NTP (network time protocol) with mandrake 9.1 and ntp worked for me quiet well... untill i screwed up the networking and now It doesn't boot well (another post elsewhere for this...)

Sorry I didn't post results. Hiper was right (as was drspangle). The problem was with 1.32a. b fixed it. I don't know about your time problems, Ciccio. I always install ntp as a matter of course. (Quick rant on id: their web site has always kinda sucked, but it seems to be getting worse: they actually have the 1.31 patch posted).

HEy, their page may suck, but the game rocks!. Anyway, my 'fix' is because I'm too lazy to download the new point release... I read on a quake 3 forum a while ago (over a year) and have been using that ever since...
