Quake 3 lags after kernel and graphics driver update, rh9 gf mx440

I installed quake 3 on my xp 2800+ 1024 ram gf 440mx 128mb
Ran just fine, but one day I decided to do a kernel upgrade, and with the upgrade I had to reinstall the graphics driver (from nvidias site), It was the same driver I was already running but my old was compiled for another kernel-version.
Thought that maybe something hade changed in /etc/X11/XF86Config

I run Redhat9 with the 2.4.20-28.9 kernel

You shouldn't have to change the XF86Config, but I have heard people having problems with certain nVidia drivers. Most people seem to swear by the 4496 (I'm one of them) others when they moved to 2.6.x used 5582 or whatever the latest one is. My recommendation, is just try some until you have one that works perfectly. Compare them based on your Quake III performance and what you get in glxgears. Good luck

Download q3pointrelease from for an example www.planetquake.com
then you need the pak-files from your own cd (or downloaded win-copy)

suddenly it started to run properly again, strange, these things I gave up windows for
