Q3 install

hi, im a new, tryin to install graphix drivers for my ti4600, i downloaded the drivers from nvidia, i need to boot into console, can someone tell him how to boot into console mode instead of starting x or can i just use the install after x starts, i'm running mandrake 10.0, thanks...

Open a console in X and use su and your admin password to get to root. telinit 3 will take you to a console mode with no X running. Install the nvidia drivers then telinit 5 will get you back to X... Make sure you have the kernel source installed as the nvidia driver will probably need it. And you will need to edit your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file and change the nv driver to nvidia and add or uncomment the glx option, etc... (should be in the info for the nvidia driver)

Ya, but on newer version of linux its not XF86Config-4, its either XF86Config or xorg.cfg

Of course the XFconfig file will depend on the distro... Mandrake still used XF86Config-4... Other use other files...
