Exclamation Problems with nVidia drivers on Soyo KT600+, Apollo FX5200

I have recently purchased a new mobo and a new graphics card (Soyo KT600+ and Apollo GeForce Fx5200 respectively) I was excited to get ut2k4 going and start fragging away, but I have been unable to get the nVidia driver to work correctly. I am able to install the driver and edit my XF86CONFIG-4 file, but when I restart into X after the boot nothing is displayed!!! I have tried setting up the driver at least 10 times and even re-installed my os (debian with gnome 2.4) with the new card, but nothingn works!!! Please help me, someone!!!

in your xf86config file, is the driver set to nv? if so, change it to nvidia. is your xfconfig looking in the right pci slot for the card? do you have the nvidia module loaded?

Unhappy hmmm....

I do have the "nv" changed to "nvidia"....

What's all this about it looking for the right pci slot?

In my XF86CONFIG-4 file there is a line that says...

# BusID "PCI:1:0:0"

but two things...

Number one, the line is commented
and
Number two, my card is AGP

What should I do with this line, I think you might have just helped a whole lot. First, what is the correct bus id for the AGP slot, and second, should I uncomment it (i would guess so, but I don't want to fsck it up).

Thanks

the correct busid (for me) is 1:0:0, it cant really be different for you. try uncommenting that line, if it fails, it wont make anything any worse.

Unhappy no....

Tried uncommenting that line, didn't work.

Is the BusId supposed to be PCI 1:0:0?
It seems to me that it shouldn't be PCI but AGP
I haven't tried it yet, but if anyone else has any other ideas please help.

Here's what I did.

installed the driver
edited the XF86CONFIG-4 file
-changed "nv" to "nvidia"
-removed "load dri" and "load GLcore"
-uncommented Busid

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Exclamation hold on!

I just reread our little conversation and in your initail reply you said, "do you have the right module loaded?" What did you mean? Is that just installing the driver or is there a step that I'm missing here? I loaded the driver by:

-downloading it from nvidia.com
-rebooting into single user mode
-did this by waiting for lilo, hitting shift, and typing Linux single
-cd-ing into my home
-sh "driver name"
