Problems with "Descent 3" using wine; and does American McGee's Alice work with wine?

Just in case you need to know:

Using MandrivaLinux 2006
Descent 3 and Alice are both "Windows"
AMD 64 bit Processor (x86_64)
A GeForce 6600GT NVidia Card

I installed Descent 3 with "Wine" and it did install the game, but I'm seeing a few problems.
One is that right after the game is installed, it asks to see a preview of some other game. I can only click 'ok', no cancel or exit, or "x", nothing, so as soon as I click on "ok", i get this "directdraw" error, assuming it's not installed or something. If I remember correctly, it may look like "initfailed!

In setup "video", I don't see anything on my graphic card, no openGl, but rather "Direct3D - DirectDraw HAL" & "Direct 3D - User (& GDI)
Also, when I try to play the game, it says "insert disc 1" It is in there, but refuses to get any farther.

Also, does American McGee's Alice work with wine? I ordered it, but have not received it yet. May not for a few more days.

Congrats for even getting Descent installed in wine. I play it quite a bit but I have a windows box for that.

for the Instert Disc problem you'll need to get the 1.4 patch here:

http://www.planetdescent.com/site/files/d3/patches/

You can probably install the patch in wine as well but hard to say what your outcome would be.

There is also A Linux version you may want to try:

wow, I was amazed to see a planetdescent site. That's where I go, so my next question is, if you go there. If so, I'm "Vanguard".

I'll certainly try the 1.4 patch. I'm assuming the windows version.
thanks again.

Update: it seems like the patch works and all, and after rebooting, I see a separate slot for "descent 3", saw the icon and all, but when I want to play, i get this now:

"The following error occurred while trying to launch "main.exe"
File not found"
