Problems installing WoW with Wine

Well i have looked through a lot of manuals and guides on how to do it with Wine, but i am having a few problems with it (in places where the guides weren't clear).

The Problems:
1. I have Linux Red Hat x86....what version is that?
(cause in the wine download page there is Red Hat version 8,9 and Fedora Core 1 to 4)

2. On each version in the Wine download page there r 5 types of files to down load...i686,i386,athlon,development package and source which one do i need???

3. All of the Wine files (no matter which type) r with .rpm ... Do i need a sepcial software to open it? because when i try to open any of the files it says it can't open it cause a file is missing or doesn't open anything after it asks for the root password.

4. (last one When i run the patch command files in what dirctory should i be? and in what dirctory should the patches be?

I am sry if some or all of my questions r nooby but i am new to Linux and thnx in advance to anyone who posts answers to my problems.

1. don't know.. you tell us. try running "uname -a" or "cat /etc/issue" or "cat /etc/redhat-release". all versions of redhat are x86 apart from the ones that... aren't...

2. the one that suits your processor. what processor do you have?

3. you need to install it using the rpm tool. check our tutorial section for details of installing rpms.

4. patch, what patch?

i'd guess you won't get this working using wine... wine isn't designed for games specifically and can be a nightmare. check out cedega for a specialised fork of wine for gaming.

Thnx acid,

here is the missing info. :

1. My linux version is: Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 3 (Taroon)
2. My processor is...Intel P4 2.66GHZ 1.5G Ram
3. I'll check it out, 10x.
4. The Patches i was talking about change from guide to guide...just wanted to know if the Wine folder and the patches need to be under the same directory or do the patches need to be in the main Wine folder?

About the Cedega, i want to try Wine first and see how it is for my self.

1. that's 3 then. to be honest rhel AS is a pretty poor choice for games, it's deliberatlely targetted at stability not features, so contains some older binaries rather than hewer ones which have a lesser track records - use a desktop distro like ubuntu instead.

2. i686 then

4. again changes with each patch from what they do to what... normally they are for the source code, not the binaries, so you'd recompile it from scratch after applying

as far as making it run, yes. afaik you can actually get cedega as a free cvs download called winex, but in your position i wouldn't recommend doing this either, as it's officially unstable and you'd have to manually scompile it yourself.
