Problem running Baldur's Gate 2: complete edition on Ubuntu 18.04 64-bit
Hello, I am trying to run Baldur's Gate 2: Complete Edition on Ubuntu 18.04 64-bit using the native GOG Linux installer. I managed to install it successfully but I couldn't start it. The shortcut with the "windowed" name pops up a blue screen then it disappears and nothing happens afterwards.
Running it from the command line using:

I guess it is 32-bit binaries meant to run on Linux using Wine because a Wine configuration window appeared during the installation but disappeared quickly.
The info.ext file that comes with the game says:

Is this problem unique to Baldur's Gate 2? Have you been able to run other OpenGL games/apps? The above link makes me wonder if you're missing packages. But that would not be the case if other OpenGL games/apps work.
If you cropped part of the shell output starting from the command you used to try to launch the game, to when you get an interactive prompt again, then I recommend posting the whole thing.

Not sure if you're still having this problem but I saw your question when I was looking for an answer and kept checking to see if someone would reply while I sat in angst trying to figure out a solution..
My solution was to change the names of the files below in your Baldur's Gate lib/ folder
libstdc++.so.6 libxcb.so.1.1.0 libxcb.so.1
You could delete probably but if you're like me you may want to go back and try something else if it doesn't work. I just made mine
libstdc++.so.6.X libxcb.so.1.1.0.X libxcb.so.1.X
and it was good to go.

At first make sure your wine installation is correct. Try to run some other windows native application to make sure it is system related not only problem with Baldur's Gate. I was able to run Icewind Dale game on Knoppix 8.2 in live mode. But I always got problems with Baldur's gate: it was not possible to close options windows, info windows - just once they appeared they stayed even if I clicked close button.

To solve the issue I installed the package "libgl1-mesa-dri:i386" with the following command:
Code:
sudo apt install libgl1-mesa-dri:i386
Then went to: ~/GOG Games/Baldurs Gate 2 Complete/wine_standalone/lib/i386-linux-gnu
using the command:

cd ~/GOG Games/Baldurs Gate 2 Complete/wine_standalone/lib/i386-linux-gnu
then removed the following libraries as they are older version of the requested ones and they are already available in the system.
issue the following command:

rm libstdc++.so.6.0.18 libstdc++.so.6 libxcb.so.1 libxcb.so.1.1.0
and it worked but without sound.
To make the sound work:
Install the required libraries with following command:

sudo apt install libc6:i386 libasound2:i386 libasound2-data:i386 libasound2-plugins:i386
Then reboot. If there is still no sound issue the following command:

nano ~/GOG Games/Baldurs Gate 2 Complete/wine_standalone/wine.shlib
In wine_export() section change line

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="$CURRENT_DIR/lib/:$CURRENT_DIR/lib/i386-linux-gnu"
to
Code:
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="usr/lib:usr/lib"
Ctrl + o to save the changes.
Ctrl + x to exit
Reboot for the last time and it will work.
