You may play CS 1.6 with wine, too
Steam version may not work, for LAN-Only games you may wish to get a special no-steam version (you'll find that, I'm not allowed to post here any links)
Get latest wine RPM from www.winehq.org
Get a file named SHDOCVW.DLL from a Windows 98 installation (Windows XP DLL doesn't work! Only Windows 98!)

Edit your ~/.wine/config

Change

[DLLOverrides]
(...)

"Shdocvw" = "builtin,native"

to

"Shdocvw" = "native, builtin"

Start the CS installer with

wine cs16full.exe (or steaminstall.exe with steam)

To launch cs:
- change to the directory you installed cs
- launch cs with
wine hl -console -steam -game cstrike
or the lan version
wine hl -console -nomaster -game cstrike

IMO, if youre gonna play, just use 1.5, less hassle than 1.6. If its a lan only affair, then you'll be playing against people you know, and hopefully know wont cheat (and if they do a good kicking helps).

I prefer 1.5 too because the aiming models for ak/colt are better. But there're no so many 1.5 servers let on the net So I must play 1.6 with the **** STEAM. Luckily I've backuped wine registry files before the STEAM install so if STEAM fubars I can go back. Poor windoze users can't (unless they do a 200MB registry dump )
Sorry for offtopic.
