Well it appears that you're not the only one experiencing this issue, as an internet search for
ubuntu bionic playonlinux freetype reveals, e.g.

There is a suggested solution in that post that recommends deleting PlayOnLinux libraries in your home folder, but I am not expert enough with Wine to be able to say whether this will work.
Someone also reported that if you create a wineprefix with the "System" version of WINE then that works.
Being out of my depth in this area, I'll need to leave it to someone more knowledgeable about WINE to help you further with this, sorry. But at least you know that other people have experienced the same problem and that there will be a solution or workaround out there.
