It is just a game and it is a lot of fun to play with a friend. I've barely touched frets on fire, but Guitar Hero is popular for a reason. Because it is fun.

The same could be said about Need for Speed: Get a real car, it is much more fun to feel the wind on your hair or get a Cessna, it is much more impressive than playing Flightgear.

So I am not sure why you just posted something about a game to only criticizes it, but oh well.

Now, if you could get a M16 or an AK47, that would be impressive. In the mean time, I will play Counter-Strike: Source...

well you have a point but i must counter it....

when people play guitar hero there learning skills on how the "frets" and "picking" work on a fake guitar and i can only think of a couple of other games where you have to learn these fake "skills" in order to play (take for example duck hunt with the laser shotgun) now if you pick up a real guitar and apply these "skills" your gonna sound like sh!t and on top of that you'll be so used to those fake "skills" it makes it twice as hard to learn the real guitar....

now for the driving games you have the option to use a regular controller or shell out for those racing kits with the steering weal and stuff if you use these the same can apply but most dont so your brain cant make the connection between a little hand held controller and a real car.....

i haven't seen any fancy guns and such for shoot-em-up games so those have no effect on real shooting skills either

Good point mate. But you know, Frets on Fire / Guitar Hero are games. They are meant to be fun and Guitar Hero is popular for a reason. It is not meant to be a "Guitar simulator" by any means. It is just a game and if you've ever played it with a few friends and some beers, you would have had so much fun.

I actually can play guitar a bit, but it is not really my thing. It is mostly getting dusty now because I don't have much fun with it.

Again, you are comparing a game which you play with plastic controllers to a real guitar. It just sounds so wrong in my ears that I am not really sure what to say. The "skills" you acquire with a plastic guitar are just as useful as the skills you will get by driving a car in a game with a Xbox 360 controller.

You can't possibly say that one should play a real guitar instead of Guitar Hero. It is like comparing apples to a pen.

And no, I don't think games are supposed to be realistic. Every game that tried that failed (Simulators are a different beast). Games are supposed to be fun. If you make a game and the player can't enjoy it, you need to go back and plan again, regardless of how realistic or well produced it is...
