Noobie wants Windows games in his Linux.

I have absolutely no idea on how I will be able to play windows games on linux. All I know is that I must have wine and cedega, but I don't know how to use these software. I don't even know how to install them! Now you can see that I am such a noob.

Recently I warezed cedega because I don't have $ to pay the transgaming subscription fee. Now I am wondering if cedega will work even without subscription. I downloaded cedega for different distros like .deb .tar etc. because I do not know which one will work for my linux system which is suse (my tool to learn linux).

Games is what keeps me coming back to windows. If ever I learn, much better if I am able to master the linux system then ofcourse I will totally switch. But I think that will take time. Games will be the fuel for my linux learning. Games did wonders on me because it helped me learn the windows system and understand computers. Games are the ones who made my interest on computers grow..

I hope you guys can post some sort of a step by step for me. Sorry to bother you.. The effort will be totally appreciated though...

I am not that proficient with suse yet. I find yast unhelpful and not that useful. I have been trying to configure my DSL connection with suse but until now I can't get it to work. That is another topic that I have posted in this ever friendly forum. Oh well, I hope I can go past this noobie stage.

Why are you pirating cedega when there is a legal, free version CVSDega?

Sheesh.

If i am not mistaken, i think he is saying if people didnt crack software and steal it, it might be cheaper for honest people to use it. thats my polite view and i do agree. I make sure i donate to open source projects and purchase what i use.

I suppose if he 'warez'ed it, he might, once he knew how to work it, might go and get a subscription to Transgaming in the near future.

Games are sometimes easy and sometimes hard to get running. The easiest ones are just involve putting the CD in (mounting it if it doesn't automatically) and then from the terminal running SOMETHING like 'cedega /path/to/cdrom/setup.exe'

If that doesn't work there might be a Linux port for the installer (Call of Duty, Unreal Tournament, and Command and Conquer: Generals to name a few). Those are available at http://www.liflg.org/.

Any game under 'downloads > native' (doom 3, quake 3, unreal tournament) don't even need Cedega (but go out and get a subscription anyways).

Those involve putting in the CD, and making the installer you downloaded executable by typing in the terminal 'chmod u+x installername.sh' (or right clicking the icon and going permissions or something and set executable -- if you hate the terminal)

To play any installed game try looking in home/.transgaming/yada/yada/yada for the .exe of the game and then run 'cedega /path/to/exe/game.exe' (or make an icon that executes it, so every time you want to play you have to make 1 click (or 2).

So, save up $15 and support developers and users.

Thank you for the flattery but I'd suggest against it. I'm happy to toe the line with the mods if I feel strongly about something but I'd hate to see you reprimanded as a result of something I'd posted.

I can top that!

I hope that if he pirates it, the pirated copy includes a rootkit.

I dont want to bust your chops, Im not your mom, but you should pay for your stuff, these programers work hard and need to feed their kids to.

well assuming you will at least pay for cedega, (SOON) you need the .RPM file. Stick it in your home folder and open the file then "install the package with Yast". If I remember correctly you will need some other packages (rpms) to resolve the conflicts.

cedega install tutorial for newbie.

Step aside the warez issue. Here the step installing cedega:
1.Download the cegeda file u need to have 2 file. First the cegega it self(GUI)(suse small rpm 1.2Mb) and cegeda engine(7.5 mb end with *.cpkg -NOT RPM!!-).

2.click the rpm, install with Yast. if yast show nothing in search write : cegeda. It will show cedega in the right panel then install it with accept.

3.run cedega, it show in menu, if not open terminal write cedega. Follow the screen bla..bla..better choose default.

4.next is install cegeda engine, if u using pay the subcription u can dl cedega engine using auto update, if not do this menu>transgaming>install local update>browse the update file *.cpkg>ok. Cedega should be ready at this point.

5. installing the game :
a.click install icon, browse the setup.exe. if u cedega cant mount disk, use browse. in suse your cdrom is in /media just pick the folder.
b. name the program (title)
c.install the game wait.....
d. done!!
d.1.if u install blockbuster game the play icon will show in right panel, click it.
d.2.if u installed game dont have play icon in right panel, just selec the game in left panel then add icon. The browse list SHOULD SHOW THE FAKE WINDOWS DIR, if not browse in /home/-user name-/.cedega. done

666. how to install crack the game : *bip* *bip*, ah it got sensored. just note u can play cracked windows game in cedega. i can do it but i wont tell u.

Done wuihh... long post.
Any why cedega is cedega, i think is much cooler if the name was cadega.

Yes I agree that cadega is much cooler than cedega for a name. Thank you very much for letting the warez issue aside. Just another question. Does RPMs also work for gentoo/slack? After I have learned linux I will try to migrate to one of those distros.
