No sword in Prince of Persia/Dosbox

I am trying to play the classic Prince of Persia in Dosbox. The only problem is that the sword doesn't work. The key for drawing and attacking is shift, but it doesn't work.

Upon googling, I found instances of people complaining that the shift key doesn't work at all. That's not my case. I can use the shift key to grab ledges, grab potions and walk slowly. The shift key just doesn't work with the sword. Any ideas on how to fix it?

TIA

Never mind. After 20 years, I had forgotten I had to find the sword first. I found it and it works.

Sorry.

Good things start happening after you find the sword! It's still a great game, even after 32 years.
