No sound in Maelstrom and LBreakout

I installed PCLINUXOS on one of my boxes. It's based on mandrake 9.2. Using the 2.4.22 kernel. Using a CMedia 8738 PCI soundcard. Sound is great for everything except for Maelstrom and LBreakout. I have no sound at all in those games. I've turned off aRts from starting automatically in KDE but that doesn't seem to make a difference, and it doesn't work under Fluxbox, either. I've checked and DO have the SDL and SDL-net libraries installed.
I seem to have alsa-oss emulation enabled. Here are some of my configuration files. Does anybody have a suggestion? Is there something else you need to see?

/etc/modules.conf:

probeall usb-interface usb-uhci ehci-hcd
alias sound-slot-0 snd-cmipci
alias /dev/nvidia* nvidia
above snd-cmipci snd-pcm-oss

/etc/modprobe.conf:

alias sound-slot-0 snd-cmipci
alias /dev/nvidia* nvidia
install snd-cmipci /sbin/modprobe --first-time --ignore-install snd-cmipci && { /sbin/modprobe snd-pcm-oss; /bin/true; }
install usb-interface /sbin/modprobe usb-uhci; /sbin/modprobe ehci-hcd; /bin/true
remove snd-cmipci { /sbin/modprobe -r snd-pcm-oss; } ; /sbin/modprobe -r --first-time --ignore-remove snd-cmipci

/etc/sysconfig/alsa:

# -*- Mode: sh -*-
# Define true if you want the OSS compatibility layer
# to be automatically loaded as well
startosslayer=true

# Define true if you want to unload alsa modules before
# your system suspneds. This is currently useful if your
# machine is hanged up after resume.
force_stop_modules_before_suspend=false

# Uncomment if you always want to stop alsa modules forcibly in
# /etc/init.d/alsa stop or restart by killing all of running
# applications which use sound devices.
#ALSA_KILL_MODE="force"

Thanks!
