no sound in GCompris

I am having some trouble trying to determine why I can get no sound out of GCompris. I have a ensonoq soundcard on a HP Pavillion. amd athlon 800 mhz 380 mb ram.

sound works for everything else but gcompris, so I don't think it is a soundcard issue.

In the tools for gcompris, music/sounds is on.
in mixer all possible inputs and outputs are selected and volumes raised.

Is it just a matter of reinstalling the app? perhaps something on install wasn't included or configured correctly?

If sound works for everything else, then it is definitely a problem with GCompris. Wish I could help more, but this is the first I've ever heard of GCompris.
