No games will start w/ winex: Unhandled Exception

I'm having this trouble with WineX, and though I also intend to post in the transgaming forums, I've noticed that folks here seem to respond faster.
I can install games just fine in WineX, either using the command line version or Point2Play. But as soon as I try to run a game, the screen will go black for a moment, as if starting the game, and then it'll return to the desktop and print the message "Unhandled exception, starting debugger." and then quit. No other outputs. I've attempted turning on debugging, but frankly don't understand any of the output. I've tried it with several games, unfortunately I don't have my entire collection with me right now so I can't say if there might be some game it works for. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm using kde with Red Hat 9, kernel version 2.4.20-8.

What games in particular have you been trying to run?

Right now I'm trying System Shock 2 and Commandos. I've also tried with Halflife, with similar results. I'm away from home right now, so I don't really have other games to try. Could it be a game specific problem?

Well, I just hunted down my copy of the commandos expansion pack, and it worked fine (minus some easily resolvable cd issues). I guess I'll start searching around for game specific solutions.
