<-- newb to linux need a little help


like I said, I'm a nub to linux and I wanted to install steam. I have the .bin file and have no idea what to do with it, if anyone could help that would be uber.. thanks

well i assume your talking about setting up a server .. since you mentioned the bin file ..

it works great untill i have to open the hldsupdatetool.bin file, i get the EULA and i type in YES but it gives back

sh: line 1: uncompress: command not found
Broken pipe

well maybe your not doing it as root ?
or if you are, maybe you have a corrupt or incomplete download ?

could i not be loged in as root?
i completed the download twice, the only what it could be corrupt either is if its corrupt on their server??

also the guide showed me how to open .bin file so i tired to open the steam install from steam's website ds_l_1120_full.bin and it gave almost the same error

to become root:
su
*type password when it prompts for it*
and youre root. now try the script. type exit to go back to normal.

grrrr, ok, im loged in as root and im still gettin the broken pipe error

also, guys thanks for the help, Linux just isnt one of those things you can pick up in a day
