New Ventrilo Client. Any Success?

There is a new Ventrilo Client out (2.3.0) That apparenty was a MAJOR rework of the client. There was a line in the changelog that caught my eye:

Now supports the Speex codec at sample rates of 8Khz, 16Khz and 32Khz

I dont know if this means anything for our hopes of seeing Vent under linux but I know there were some issues with the GSM codecs.

I'm no expert, infact I'm very much a newbie (but learning). I just thought I'd see if anyone has had any luck, or even attempted, with the new release under wine or P2P.

NOTE: the client is not compatable with Ventrilo server < 2.2.x

it's that 'incompatible with server 2.2.x' thing that'll slow it down. Gaming Vent needs lots of client slots to survive and Vent won't allow it.

Just use TS, it works brilliantly. Flagship or whatever they are called seem happy to use open source software but are damn slow in giving anything back so sod them...let it die.
