NEW Guide to installing Steam / CS
Steam / Counter-Strike
Install WineX3, followed by Steam.
Once installed, you may wish to copy your old SteamApps folder from Windows.
This contains all the games, saving you downloading them all again.
DO NOT run the Steam shortcut on the desktop... Delete this, it messes things up.
Open your HOME directory, and create a new text file and insert the below.
cd "/home/calvin/.transgaming/c_drive/Program Files/Steam"
winex3 steam
Obviously correcting the path to suit your PC, and changing the username from calvin.
Save the text file, then rename it to steam.sh
Open a terminal, type the below.
link cs steam.sh
Now all you have to do to launch Steam is type cs into any terminal.

WineX3 is available from www.transgaming.com
It is a windows games emulator, allowing you to install Windows games in Linux.
Install it, then when you double click steaminstall.exe it should ask what program to run it with, type winex3 and hit ok
//I hate it when people say read more forums cos half the threads actually say read more threads. its just stupid.
If someone wants help - either help them or dont.

guys, does steam only work with wineX 3.3?
cause i got wineX 3.2 and i installed wine and then i installed steam and everything was going great. it installed okay i guess then steam started updating.
but at the end of the steam update i get a Error pop up that sez........ Steam.exe (main exception): unable to load library steam.dll
then i hit okay then go to the console and go to the steam folder then i type in winex3 steam or winex3 steam.exe but it always pops up the same error message.
has any had this prob?

Baddass - did you try this with Winex CVS release or do you have a subscription?
I'm in the process of compiling winex CVS right now. Hopefully it will work.

I have a subscription.
I have a more up-to-date tutorial at http://linux.so-pro.co.uk which also includes CVS

It appears that my problem isn't with wine or steam. I can install steam just fine and even run it. Access the server list and friends service, however, when launching an actual game (CS for example) steam or rather, WINE just ups and crashes out. No idea why.
This happens with every version of WINE etc etc.... bum.
