I am trying to run Neverwinter Nights on a Mandrake 9.2 laptop, and I get the following very descriptive error:
Code:
[bill@dhcppc2 nwn]$ ./nwn
Error
I have downloaded both the resources, client, and client update to 1.32. My X server is setup correctly for my video card, at least as far as I know. The game worked under windoz, and I would like to start playing again if possible. Has anyone experienced / overcome a similar error?
Distribution: K/Ubuntu 18.04-14.04, Scientific Linux 6.3-6.4, Android-x86, Pretty much all distros at one point...

As I said, NWN has a problem with being root. The game wasn't designed to operate on a multiuser OS. So install in your /home/XXXXX directory. Maybe you'll get better results.
I'm having trouble getting NWN to run, too, but it's not a permission problem. I constantly get this error when I try to run the game:
./nwmain: error while loading shared libraries: ./miles/libmss.so.6: file too short
Any thoughts? I've updated to 1.32 with no luck. The file libmss.so.6 simply contains the name of another file in the same directory, libmss.so.6.5.2.
Sorry for tacking this onto your thread, but I figured one of you might have some idea how I can correct this. The problem might even be the same one you're suffering from, although SOU seems to return more information from errors than normal NWN. I'll assume you don't have SOU since you didn't get a more detailed error message.
EDIT: Oh, I hate to point out a potential solution that's so obvious, but try modifying permissions on the shell script and the nwmain files used for running the NWN client. That fixed my initial problems with running NWN, although this one still remains.
Hrmm thats odd,it worked for me when I did that except I installed in my home directory and not /usr and my miles directory wasn't hidden (no . in front of miles).Try asking in the nwn linux section on bioware's site, you might find more info there.
