Neverwinter Nights Error

I am trying to run Neverwinter Nights on a Mandrake 9.2 laptop, and I get the following very descriptive error:

Code:
[bill@dhcppc2 nwn]$ ./nwn
Error
I have downloaded both the resources, client, and client update to 1.32. My X server is setup correctly for my video card, at least as far as I know. The game worked under windoz, and I would like to start playing again if possible. Has anyone experienced / overcome a similar error?

Thanks for the help.

I would recommend installing it using ravage's install tool to your local user account and try running it from there.

Many times, NWN does not run correctly as an application installed for general use across the system. Permissions are sometimes a problem.

Ravage's installer can be found here:

I tried ravage's installer, installing to both /usr/games and /usr/local/games, but I continued to get the same error both tries.

I needed to be root to install anywhere besides /home, is this a possible problem?

Thanks for the tip, though.

As I said, NWN has a problem with being root. The game wasn't designed to operate on a multiuser OS. So install in your /home/XXXXX directory. Maybe you'll get better results.

I'm having trouble getting NWN to run, too, but it's not a permission problem. I constantly get this error when I try to run the game:

./nwmain: error while loading shared libraries: ./miles/libmss.so.6: file too short

Any thoughts? I've updated to 1.32 with no luck. The file libmss.so.6 simply contains the name of another file in the same directory, libmss.so.6.5.2.

Sorry for tacking this onto your thread, but I figured one of you might have some idea how I can correct this. The problem might even be the same one you're suffering from, although SOU seems to return more information from errors than normal NWN. I'll assume you don't have SOU since you didn't get a more detailed error message.

EDIT: Oh, I hate to point out a potential solution that's so obvious, but try modifying permissions on the shell script and the nwmain files used for running the NWN client. That fixed my initial problems with running NWN, although this one still remains.

Add the miles directory from your NWN directory to your ld.so.conf and run ldconfig.

Done. Still getting the same error. Path's /usr/games/nwn/.miles.

EDIT: By the way, I like your desktop.

Hrmm thats odd,it worked for me when I did that except I installed in my home directory and not /usr and my miles directory wasn't hidden (no . in front of miles).Try asking in the nwn linux section on bioware's site, you might find more info there.

I have it working perfectly in /usr/local/games, however I had to change the permissions to 777 to the directory i installed in.
