Neverwinter Nights
I have installed NWN which does a good job at starting up.
but.....;)..when I choose a character, click the play button and the map has loaded: nwn instantly quits, returning me to my console. The game does not leave any errors or what so ever to my console.
This also happens in the 'Options' menu when i click 'sound options' & 'Advanced video options'.
I'm using an up to date version of nwn on gentoo 1.4.

I find this very weird because i couldn't find any info on this problem.

If anybody has an answer towards this problem, please don't hessitate to post :)

Might be a long shot, but do you have your video card installed properly? I mean with the drivers from Nvidia or ATI (i don't mean the ones that come with XFree)? It sounds like as soon as you go into "OpenGL" mode - it crashes. Leading me to believe there might be something wrong with the drivers for your video card. I know it's barely 2 cents, but it's all i got.

yes, my nvidia drivers are correctly installed. I get the startup logo & can play ET.

Thanks anyway for your reply.

Try using Ravage's installers and installing it to the user directory where you are running it from rather than /usr/local/games/whatever.

Installers can be found here:

give everyone full permissions to the directory.... That happened to me as well..

chmod -R 777 /usr/local/games/nwn

On some distributions that doesn't necessary fix the problem...

im impressed, i cant even get it to start, i just get the error message "error" when i try to start it, i used the ravage installer, and the manual method.

I've set the permissions and also tried using ravage's installer, but non has worked for me.
The same problem still exists.

I also updated my nvidia drivers this afternoon, but this too had no effect.
Anyway, this night I'll try doing the install with the nwn resources provided by Bioware (maybe i'm missing something from my windows install, though i don't see it)
I'll keep u updated.

Thanks for the help

Try installing to your user's /home sub-directory instead of installing as root. That should help. If not, then it's some other problem, usually with your XFree86 implementation (using AGPgart instead of nVidia's built in support might help, etc.).

Ok problem solved :)
I guess it had nothing to do with permissions, i installed the linux resources in /usr/local/games/nwn and the game runs smooth :)

My guesses are that something was wrong with my windows install.
Anyway that's fixed.

Thanks for all your help.
