LavaDevil: thats what i did, switched the jumpers physically. was good fun, i didnt have the expertise to get mandrake to boot so i just reinstalled it. make me realize that it takes about half the time windows xp took me to install, and i get way more functionality with it. and i kept all my settings... wow i love linux.

and i realize it is possible to run cs under wine, ive tried tutorials but it's hard (i couldnt fix the ambiguous filenames for the dlls required for dhcom and ie). i was going to get starcraft working first, then move on to cs if i could handle it (baby steps, kindof) but since i havent even got that working yet i still need my windoze :/

i think it may be time to bite the bullet and purchase the latest winex.

and thanks again lavadevil for answering me

I recently came across SCL Beta (StarCraftLinux)
http://wiw.xlphp.net/sclhome.htm

I downloaded it and it was able to install starcraft and broodwar seamlessly. It ran perfectly as if it were running on windows. It allowed me to run starcraft without a disk, in a separate x session, and play multi player (battle.net and Local Area Network.) games

It is still in the early developmental stages and might not work entirely. It worked perfectly for me, so go give it a try.

Future versions will auto detect hardware, will have support for StarCraft2 (will automatically download and install it) and much more. These are just a fraction of the future features (all that I can remember).

Download SCL, run it, PLAY SOME STARCRAFT!!!!!!!

also,

I am running knoppix 5.1 with wine 0.9.12

Thanks for the tip.
I have to try it out as soon as I can.
I just looked a the file. Basically it's just a script to get everything running and requires the starcraft CD.
But making life easier for people is always something good.
