more ATI card woes

I can't seem to get MESA3D to stop running so my ATI drivers can take over and so I can actually get 3d going. It's bugging the junk out of me.

I'm running slack 9.1, and I installed the drivers the way they're supposed to be done via rpm2tgz, then make.sh etc etc. No matter what I've tried thus far, it keeps coming up Mesa3d indirect in fglrxinfo AND fgl_glxgears refuses to run....along with all my other 3d apps.

I did this & my ATI control panel reports that its Mesa, I have not made a backup, any suggestions on how to recover my old settings? (I used to have OpenGL working pretty well)

ATI has some very good instructions on their website for forcing the driver install over MESA. It did take me several tries before it finally worked (not sure why...) but now the ATI driver is fully loaded and running and OpenGL looks wonderful!!
I think the key is the proper force instruction.
