Logitech MX1000

I just reinstalled Debian 3.1. I have a Logitech MX 1000 and I got UT2004 installed and I noticed that the mouse wheel is switching by 2 guns at a time. It's also doing this in Quake 3 and all my games. The mouse wheel won't even work in Doom 3. All the buttons don't work either. I found this site:

http://www.linux-gamers.net/modules/...p?articleid=46

but I'm not sure how to do what it asks, like patching the X server for example. I am using the i686 Kernel 2.6.8 off of the Debian testing repository. Please help.

Here is my XF86Config-4 section for mice:

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Configured Mouse"
Driver "mouse"
Option "CorePointer"
Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
Option "Protocol" "ImPS/2"
Option "Emulate3Buttons" "true"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Generic Mouse"
Driver "mouse"
Option "SendCoreEvents" "true"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
Option "Protocol" "ImPS/2"
Option "Emulate3Buttons" "true"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection

I am running a stock 2.6.8 kernel and I'm freakin out cause I can't play UT2004 properly thanks to a dumb mouse. Please relieve my anger.

I still have absolutely no idea how to patch my X server. Maybe there is someone kind enough to take 5 minutes and tell me?

Do you people have any idea how frustrating it is to be waiting for help for ever across 3 forums and not get a single reply?

Well, what you're describing is a pretty obscure problem with one particular action within one particular game using one particular type of mouse. There just might not be that many people out there who have encountered that same problem, and thus the pool of people who would know how to fix it would be pretty small. I'm pretty sure that everyone here is familiar with that frustrated feeling you describe, but please also note that LQ is a 100% volunteer effort, and while the goal is to try to solve as many questions as possible there are no guarantees that all questions will be solved.

In any event I'm not a gamer and I have basically no experience in this area, but it may be that the problem you're facing is due to your scroll wheel being set to move 2 lines per "click" rather than just one line. In other words, you should be able to control how much vertical movement the scroll wheel will produce, and maybe reducing it might be helpful. I don't know, but it's a guess.

Lastly, this thread may be better suited for the Linux - Games forum. I can move it there if you'd like me to -- J.W.

It would be nice if you could move it to an area where people actually know how to patch the X server and please post the link to it.
