Hi all,
I'm brand new to Linux (Kubuntu dapper x64). I have tried to get past the CPU Scaling issue for UT99 and can not for the life of me figure out how to do it. I've tried Wine (too slow and unresponsive), used the loki installer (after installing the missing libgtk's), replaced its start up file with one recommended from another forum, and tried to figure out how to disable ACPI (don't know if I was successful or not). It still runs way too fast. I'm getting my XP disk ready for a reload and wipe out of linux. :( I will not allow an OS to keep me from playing that to which I'm addicted :) -even if it is full of holes!

Rather do native

I looked at cedega, but (1)its an emulator and (2)costs money to subscribe. So, I'd really rather go native. So many people have had success getting UT99 installed with loki. It just makes it all the more frustrating when it doesn't work.
There is supposed to be a few utilities for controlling cpu frequency, which I installed as well, but none seem to work.
I did find a post suggesting to install a gnome applet called cpufreq. Is there a similar applet for KDE? I'm really close to tossing in the towel :( Thank you.

Hmm, I just searched KDE-Apps.org and found KPowersave. Perhaps, if I install that, it will allow me to put the cpu frequency policy to "performance", which they claim it does. This was part of the whole acpi thing, I was trying to get a grasp on. :) By having the policy set to "performance" its supposed to keep the cpu from fluctuating. Will it keep UT99 from going too fast...I dunno, but at least its something :)
