Unhappy KDE vs Gnome UT2004 mouse movement

Here is my question regarding mouse movement in UT2004 under linux: Why is it that when I am running KDE my mouse movements in UT2004 (such as panning left and right) is so jumpy/rough, but yet when I play it under Gnome the movements are butter smooth? I prefer to run KDE (have for years) but the mouse support in UT2004 under KDE is so rough that it is nearly impossible to frag well, especially with a single shot weapon. But, just changing to Gnome and everything is smooth as can be. What do you think could be wrong with my KDE setup? I'd like to stick to KDE, but if Gnome is my only choice, I'll have to switch. I have tried messing around with the mouse acceleration thresholds (and turning off accelerate all together) in KDE, but it never seems to make a difference. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

It might be the amount of RAM available in each DE. Run 'top' in both KDE and GNOME and check how much RAM you have before running UT2004.

Well, the game runs as a consistent and strong framerate under KDE and Gnome, just the same. In fact, just using the keyboard to move doesn't show any signs of stuttering or roughness. It is only when panning with the mouse under KDE.
