I need some help getting Darkplaces running

Hi and thanks for reading,

<disclaimer>
I'm a complete newbie in all things Quake
</disclaimer>

I've been using the tyrquake engine for a while, but I've heard quite a bit about Darkplaces and wanted to give it a try. I'm on Linux Mint Debian Edition, so I ran "sudo apt-get install darkplaces", but I get the "You have reached this menu due to missing or unlocatable content/data, consider adding -basedir /path/to/game". I've got pak1.pak, but I still get the error when I run "darkplaces -basedir /home/jarubyh/tyrquake/id1/pak1.pak"

I've read through all of the Darkplaces documentation I can, but no dice. Thanks again for your help.

For the -basedir option, you must specify the game DIRECTORY, not the pak file, e.g /home/jarubyh/tyrquake/id1. Or, you could just copy your id folder to the /home/yourusername/.darkplaces directory. It will load it automatically. If you have the mission packs, hipnotic and rogue, then you can put the hipnotic and rogue folders in /home/yourusername/.darkplaces and start the game with

Quote:
darkplaces -game hipnotic

darkplaces -game rogue
If /home/yourusername/.darkplaces doesn't exist, you can always create a new folder and call it that.
