I have an issue starting Cedega.

Hi all! First time post, hope I make some sense. Great forum by the way.

Anywho, I have tried various means to get Cedega to run, my distro is Mandriva 2007 Powerpack.

I have installed from urpmi, RPMDrake, and even downloaded from torrents. Here is the error message I get from console.

[eric@localhost ~]$ cedega
/usr/lib/transgaming_cedega/gddb.py:19: RuntimeWarning: Python C API version mismatch for module gddb_parser: This Python has API version 1013, module gddb_parser has version 1012.
import gddb_parser
F1 2007-06-23 18:49:41,888 CRITICAL Unable to load GUI components: No module named _md5

I have done some research online in the Cedega forums (which you seem to have to pay in order to subscribe) and the Mandriva forums, yielding nothing.

I really don't have any reason to need this, it just bugs me that it is not working.

If anybody can shed some light on this, that would be awesome.

Thanks in advance,
Eric.

OK... looks like your installed python is too advanced for cedega.
However: this thread, in cedega forums, has an insightful discussion.

The error is associated with:

1. running cedega as root (not you)
2. cedega is on a fs mounted "noexec" (edit fstab)
3. you are installing from a very large zip file
(...unzip separately, then run Startup.exe)
5. python is too advanced (downgrade)

This seems to be backed up by other "solved" threads like this one.

AFAIK the only way to legally get cedega for free is through subversion. http://www.linux-gamers.net/modules/...WTO+Cedega+CVS

But last time I tried it didn't work at all. Even though it compiled without errors.
Also, wine already supports most games equally well. So I would go with that.
Use a loki installer, if there is one. http://www.liflg.org/

Try to include in your post what you are trying to do. - In this case, what games you want to install. Very often there is more than one way to getting something to run

Welcome to the forum!

Thanks for the welcome.

Oskar, you asked what I was trying to accomplish? It was just trying to open the GUI! I have not even got to the install game part of things.

Thanks for the links Simon, going to work on it.

The only game I really wanted to run was CIV III.

I understand that this game will not run under Codeweavers.

Anybody have luck running this game under anything else?

p.s. I never got Cedega to run, don't figure it out. I have both the engine and gui installed but when I try to open the program either from console or menu, nothing happens.

Looks like it should run with cedega. Not officially supported though.

It is reported to work with wine, but you need to copy the installation folder from windows... or mount it with ntfs-3g.

And of course bugging the civilization publisher with emails demanding a linux port can't hurt.

What is weird is that Firaxis Games have published other games under Linux such as Alpha Centauri.
