How to play Windows' games in Linux?

Hi,

I'm a newbie to Linux and I really don't understand how you guys can install and play Windows' games in Linux (like Warcraft III, CS, ...). Is there any software that simulates Windows environment?

Can anyone tell me how? If I can play games like WarCraft in Linux, I think I don't need to come back to Windows ^_^.

You want Cedega.

http://www.transgaming.com/

It runs WarCraft 3, and MANY other Windows games perfectly. You can build it free from cvs if you don't want to pay the fee. 15 bucks will get you the installer, though. That's really not such a bad deal.

Sorry but I can't found anywhere on the website to download... The introduction about it seems great...

To download you first have to register and pay,...
Once you pay, you can login and have access to the downloads section, otherwise you need to utilize the CVS, which is a pain to set up.

Note:
Cedega is essentially wine with DirectX extension work-arounds (also known as WineX). The problem is, that it also tries to remove the problem of on-disk copy protection. That software is proprietary. So Transgaming had contracted with a number of the providers of that software for a full license to use it. That made their software package a combination of the proprietary stuff and the prior open source stuff. Then,... the open-source wine developers switched to a GPL type license instead of the BSD type license which means that the Transgaming people couldn't use the newer wine fork stuff, nor contribute back to the wine community the non-proprietary stuff they were working on (BSD and GPL licenses tend to be incompatible). What they HAVE done is make the CVS available for download, without the copy-protection stuff (so games that use the copy protection won't work with the CVS without a no-CD hack).

So simple is the world of Linux...

Honestly though, $15 is nothing to pay considering in most cases your OS was free.
