no prob. one thing that puzzles me is how could you forget them (no offense )? noone bought from them, but now ppl are begging for someone to try to replace loki. it seems you dont know what you miss until you dont have it.
yeah that's silly - us techies know all the shorcuts and end up cutting out what we want with pure stupidity / greed.
It is good to buy the odd copy of software that is Linux friendly - like UT2003 etc. I really should buy a copy. - I went out ot buy it until I saw it did not have Linux on the box. Then I just did'nt get it. I prolly should tho - now they're going to give it it's place in advertising next round.
And expecially seeing how hard it is for linux gaming Co's - if they have to make their money on Win users - so why would they bother?
- sort of like CStrike - is there an incentive for them?? They are a business - I would buy their game straight up if they released a nix version.
Loki failed because of a problem that shows itself on these boards. People rate fun, and rate it lower than 40 dollars, much much lower. This is a huge problem in linux, people who use a free OS feel that the apps and games should be free too, which is just not true. And look loki has already been forgotten...
Uglydot~ yeah it's odd - leeching comes hand in hand with techies. Alot of techies then move over to GPL nix and realize if they leech EVERYTHING all the time then it's actually working against alot of things they like. It will never stop. And then again musicians getting ripped off who don't care about leechers - well we should leech their labels - until they play nice. Co-ordinating leeching could be beneficial heh heh. Anyway - Like I said - I buy only the stuff I care about - the rest - welll.. slurp.

a character, mossy? btw, warez i think is only one kind of piracy. a place called garagegames international (no, not the ppl who made thinktanks) the ppl who made robotron actually leeched the game data off gunocide2.
If I see a game on the shelves of one of the many computer stores I do buisness with I'll buy it. As long as it's not $40.. (that's US folks.. in Canada that would be $60.. and I definitely think that's not worth it), and that the company doesn't maliciously against it's users.
Not everyone leeches, I've contributed to a lot of the tools I use day to day, and implemented features that I and others have wanted. If you want leachers look at what Cisco is doing with Linux, now that's leeching.
But it's definitely true.. I would not rate fun with games at $40 US.. now... $10.. that's acceptable.
I don't even want a case or box.
Don't talk to me about rip-offs! $40 in £s is £28.88. Therefore, we buy the same game, you in America, me in England, I should get a fairly cheap game, right? Wrong, the game costs me £39.99 which in dollars is $66.97. We get told about import and export costs but what does it cost to export code - the cost of an encrypted email or 2?
Game software in Australia is the same deal ... $99.95 for a new release. That's about $69USD. But when you consider that's about 25% of the average weekly wage, it's no wonder piracy is so rife.
Watch the backs of the linux community, it almost does seem to good to be true. I mean come on, A giant company like Valve? The ones who made HL1 and made MILLIONS! I think they would be ALLOT more cautious then this.
I highly doubt that Valve would let Gabe Newell speak with out some very cautious steps.
Valve put every damn cent they had into HL2, don't you think they would secure it? HL2 is a multi-million dollar investment, come on. Its not clear what the intentions where of this "Gabe" guy and some one copying the source code. Even if it was to help the linux community at hand, CHEERs. If this is real and isnt bogus garbage, this would help out the linux community a great deal.
This is a "find keepers" world. I wont believe this whole situation until Valve themselves publicly announce the situation. If the source code was copied and it was leaked, and if Valve is interested in find who ever it was, you can be sure they will make an announcement.
