Halo on Linux?

Hi all, Has anybody tried to install Halo on a Linux distro? I know it's a microsnot game and all but I was just curious if it was possible. Maybe under Wine or WineX?

Thanks for any replies,
RANDON

it wasnt made by... them . halo was made by bungie, the ppl who made us marathon: aleph one. more to the point, though. ive never tried running it with wine or winex, since i dont have the game. maybe you could try the demo.

I tried to get it to work, but it kept poping up with a msgbox saying "This program requires M$ Winblows 98 or Higher". it must be some 'new' copy protection bs that M$ has implemented. I haven't tried it with WineX yet b/c I don't want to spend the $5 per month for the software.

did you try the free winex? of course, that doesnt have the install shield emulation... still, you might have more luck.

the message about win98 required can be fixed in the wine or winex config file by uncommenting the line that says what winversion to emulate; set this to win98

i too am interested to see if Halo would run on linux

I already have the winver set to win2k, I tried it with winver win98 and it still gave me the error. I ended up getting a copy of winxp through school to play sof2 b/c punkbuster would kick/ban me from servers when i used wine saying I had a video driver hack #90009. I am awaiting a new release to test it out.

I think WINE would slow down the game.. I tried WINE with Winamp 3 and it really slowed down the app...

winex is more likely to work, but ive gotten some directx games to work with wine, but not with winex, like soldat and GeneRally.

the difference is that winex has a more mature directx implementation, thus making it, in general, more compatible with windoze games then vanilla wine. wine is still decent, though.
