Getting kicked from bzflag servers because of lag

For the last few days I have been getting kicked from most bzflag servers for lag problems. I was just kicked from desert storm I think with lack times og +300 to 1200ms. I have a terminal window open pinging the site and am seeing 50-60ms ping times. What's going on? My connection is 20Mbs as reported by speedtest.net and pinging yahoo.com returns 15-20ms.

Is there a problem with my client? I am running Fedora 10, 64 bit with the latest upgrades.
